Rescue a Dog18 Jun 2010 04:37 am

Little Miss Daisy has just been rescued with little time left at an LA, California shelter. Her new foster Mom was so happy to hold her in her arms and took her straight to a vet where she got the care she so desperately needs.

But the vet costs are adding up quickly and her new foster Mom (who is retired) really needs help paying them. Luckily, the vet will accept donations, so please contribute any amount if you can and help spread the word for this special little girl. (Details of this very touching rescue story are below.)

New Pictures from Daisy’s Foster Mom

Hello poodle lovers and friends,
I would like to introduce Daisy to you. After hearing about Daisy from my daughter, Heather, I knew I had to get her out of the Baldwin Park Animal Care & Control center (LA County)! I picked her up on Thursday, June 17th and took her straight to my vet. Daisy is a 14-year-old, 11 pound Toy Poodle who was surrendered by her owner, reason unknown. She has cataracts and alopecia on the back area, neck, and tail (we still need to do a scraping). NEVERTHELESS, she is a lot more than just an aging dog that no one wanted. She is quite the character! She couldn’t get out of the county building fast enough and looked forward to getting into a car. She sat straight up in the front seat and looked out the window on the passenger side; she is VERY alert and inquisitive. She probably picked up on my dread of getting back on the 605, so she helped by keeping her eyes on all the vehicles on her side of the car (to ensure they didn’t get too close).

I was touched when she tenderly licked my hand as I reached over to reassure her that better days were here. During the journey back to Long Beach she remained interested in her surroundings and let me know that she wanted me to pet her, which I did of course (for who can deny a poodle). At the vet’s she met a large dog with vigorous wags of her hairless tail (don’t let her know I revealed her temporary loss of hair! A lady’s vanity must be honored after all). The staff showered her with tender caresses and she welcomed the attention. She patiently allowed the vet to exam her, which included her ears (very bad and smelly!).

After spending the night at the vet’s, she is at her temporary home with me, while awaiting a forever home. When we arrived, she walked through the door with the confidence of a queen. My two male dogs (terrier mixes), greeted her and she reciprocated happily. It’s as though she knows the place! I can’t get over how quickly she adapts to whatever situation or place she’s in. You have to admire her confidence and pluck. Despite her cataracts, she seems to find her way around my house without a problem. She is very sweet and loves to cuddle.

Dr. Ata Abrishami, (www.bixbyanimal.com) (I’ve been taking my animals to him for years), waived the fees for Daisy’s exam/consultation, overnight boarding, and medicated bath/dip. Upon examination, he found her ears to be badly infected. The following charges were incurred for her immediate care on June 17th:

The following is a list of procedures that still need to be performed for Daisy. This estimate only approximates the cost of her next visit. It does not include any additional treatments that may be deemed necessary during this treatment/exam. Medications for her skin will be dependent on blood work findings and skin scrapings.

I am a retired minister with a limited income with two dogs and two cats of my own. If you find that you are able to help Daisy, a 14 yr old poodle who is so friendly and youthful, please send donations to:

To the left: This baby could be a movie star! (Think of The Little Rascals and Spuds Mckenzie!) This is one of the two soldier’s dogs that desperately needs adoption or rescue.

To the right: Another absolutely beautiful dog - these two are a wonderful pair. But to save their lives, they can be adopted separately. Unfortunately, they are running out of time.

Both were vetted at a military vet office in March. They were absolutely adored by the staff.
